After studying English and writing drama at Manchester University and working with Rick Mayall and Adrian Edmonson, Mike Handley started work as a young copywriter at part of the Royds Advertising group. Won the Manchester International Airport account in competitive pitch and soon worked on all business in all media there. Also worked through Manchester agencies Clough Howard & Richards and BCMB on the following accounts: Warrington New Town Development Corporation, Isle Of Man Tourist Board, Tudor Crisps,Timpsons Shoes,Hygena Kitchens, British Telecom: International Direct Dialling, Local Calls, Radiopaging, Prestel,Thwaites Beer,Sharp Electronics,Mulberry Home Extensions,Dgi Home Security,Cold Shield,Greater Manchester Economic Development Corporation.
Then moved to Edinburgh to Royds as Copy Head working on £7.2 million billings on
Scottish Tourist Board, Bank Of Scotland, Scottish Health Education Group, North Of Scotland Electricity Board, British National Oil Corporation
Then moved to London and stayed there starting work at Geers Gross plc, working up to Creative Group head over a six year period and picking up more heavy all media experience, in press posters radio and particularly TV and TV production, working on
ICI, Exchange & Mart, East Midlands Electricity Board, Kp Crisps, Wimpy, Access Credit Card, Homepride, Imperial Tobacco
Then in 1988 set up an agency as Creative Director and equity holder with the ex joint MD of Geers Gross plc and two other partners, the Orpheus Advertising Company Ltd. This was a business starting from scratch, which gained and ran the following business:
United Distillers, Eastern Electricity, Guinness Brewing (New Product Development), Hiram Walker, London Transport, Guardian Manchester Evening News Group - Auto Trader.
In 1996 left to start own business. Worked with a wide variety of different agencies.
